Floyd Family Reunion 2026: Good Food, Great Stories, Proud Heritage

The 73rd Floyd Family Reunion took place on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at the Woodbine Lions Club in Woodbine, Georgia. We started the day with a wonderful potluck lunch and plenty of good fellowship, then gathered for our meeting with 34 family members present.

We recognized the cousin who traveled the farthest – all the way from the wilds of Alaska!

We celebrated three new little ones born in 2025, as well as a wedding that took place in June of 2025. After the reading of the 2025 Meeting Minutes and the Treasurer’s report, we heard an update on our efforts to regain access to the family cemetery and the ongoing work to preserve it properly. There are efforts at the state level to acquire surrounding land which may open the way for us to have access again, so stay tuned!

We created a new Family Historian position to help keep all our family stories, names, and memories alive for the generations to come. In simple terms, the Family Historian is the friendly keeper of our family’s history. This person gathers and organizes information about our relatives — things like births, marriages, deaths, old photos, letters, and the special stories that get passed down around the dinner table. They help maintain the family tree, update our records and spreadsheet, look after documents and mementos, and make sure interesting tales (like those about our Revolutionary War ancestor) don’t get forgotten.

The oldest and youngest folks in attendance were given special recognition, and one branch of the family was thanked for sending in the most updates. And although he couldn’t attend in person, we recognized and all signed a card that we sent to our oldest living relative who just celebrated his 100th birthday in March.

We honored the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence by recalling the hardships endured by our Revolutionary War ancestor Charles Floyd. Our young C.A.R. (Children of the American Revolution) member along with our Reunion Secretary, read and acted out the story of his capture and imprisonment on a British warship during the seige of Savannah and his brave refusal to betray his country. The story is told by Charles’ granddaughter, Mary Floyd Hamilton, in her book entitled “A Little Family History” published in 1908 which is now available under “Resources” on our website.

Commemorative stickers were handed out, and everyone was encouraged to share births, marriages, or other news for our records. So please send in any information right here on our website by filling out the “Ask Our Floyd Family Historian” form on the home page.

Everyone agreed to hold the 2027 reunion right back at the same hall. Looking forward to see you all then and even more of you. So bring that other cousin!
